The Lord’s Prayer for Today

written by Craig Finnestad August 17, 2017

This weekend I am speaking about prayer. I have enjoyed spending time praying and thinking about prayer this week and am more excited to share this weekend at The Water’s Edge. The following is from my book Prayers from The Water’s Edge. It is the Lord’s Prayer put into modern English. My writings are one of many to attempt to translate this prayer. It’s not close to perfect — but hopefully you find it helpful.

The Lord’s Prayer for Today

God, You are the one true God.
Your name is above all names.

May Your vision for the world become a reality.
May I think, speak, and act like You.

Provide for me; bless me with what I need.
Forgive me for my sins.
Let me share this same grace with others.

May I give You the primary place in my heart and love others like You love them.
Save me when I hurt others and hurt myself.

This world is Yours both now and forever.
I will honor You.

Amen.

On the Future of Methodism

I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out. -John Wesley
