A Little About Me
I’m married to Amber. She is a marriage and family therapist for Woodhaven Counseling. We have two sons: Benjamin, a 10th grader at Millard North High School, and David, a 4th grader at Willowdale Elementary. Benjamin is on the debate team, is a soccer referee, and spends an inordinate amount of time following politics and current events. David loves playing practical jokes and sports—especially soccer, lacrosse, and basketball. All four of us are regularly entertained and loved by our giant, black Newfoundland dog—Esther. Esther enjoys swimming, competitive eating, and little people.
I am the pastor of The Water’s Edge United Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska. The church is filled with amazing and committed people. Together WE are discovering what it means to love God, to be loved by God, and to follow Jesus.
I served churches in Kentucky, Georgia, Iowa, and Texas before starting The Water’s Edge. I attended college, seminary, and graduate school at Drake University, Asbury Theological Seminary, and Emory University. My master’s thesis is on Søren Kierkegaard’s critique of the of the Danish Church and its implications for today’s American Church. My doctoral dissertation is on the use of humor in public speaking. I also coach a few church plants and existing churches.
My passions in ministry are listening to and praying for people; creating healthy systems where people can connect and grow; dreaming of new ways to serve poor and hurting people; and speaking at our worship experiences.
When I’m not being a pastor, I enjoy coaching the OFC Arsenal soccer team, running on dirt trails at Platte River State Park, taking pictures, watching the Green Bay Packers, spending lazy summer days at Table Rock Lake, and exploring new places with my family.
