Benjamin and I went to the Churchill War Rooms. It was the underground shelter he and his large team of people used and sometimes lived in during the war. It was amazing to see what they were able to accomplish with such limited technology. What was even more amazing was a glimpse into the life of Winston Churchill. He was eccentric, an overcomer, and an incredible leader. I look forward to reading more about him him I get back. Here is a sample of some of his writings and speeches.
- Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
- A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.
- You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.
- Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
- If you are going through hell, keep going.
- Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.
- Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.
- The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.
- For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use to be anything else.
- Personally, I’m always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.
