So I finished “Prayers from The Water’s Edge” today and sent it to the editor. I wrote this one, number 100, last night and this morning. If you have children, I encourage you to give it a try and let me know what you think.
Dear God,
I come to You to pray for my children.
Give me comfort and peace because they are Your children too.
They are Your idea. You created them. You keep loving them. You will save them.
Guide me as a parent. Give me times and places where I am fully present with them.
At times I feel I’m in over my head—overwhelmed and under-resourced.
May my words and actions and habits point my children to You.
I pray they will experience Your grace and inner strength.
I pray they will live as forgiven and not be full of shame or guilt.
I pray today is a day they grow closer to You and grow to be more like You.
Don’t let fear consume them and cause them to miss out on the life You give.
Help them overcome their failures. Fill them with courage and hope.
Even when others don’t accept them, may they embrace Your acceptance.
Give them wisdom as they make choices today.
Keep giving them a vision for their lives and help them live out those priorities.
May they experience rest, balance, and harmony.
Lead them to treat others well and respect all.
May they use their words to give life and encourage others.
Teach them to be listeners and bless them with patience.
Fill them with both joy and compassion.
May they spend their days loving others and loving You.
Finally, may Your will be done in their lives.
Amen.
