This morning’s sunrise was probably one of the most amazing I have ever seen. In the captions of these four photos I share four lessons from sunrises.
1. The sunrise only comes only after a sunset and a period of darkness. Most of my prayers are for people are during the sunset and darkness. One of the things I usually pray is for people to emerge from pain and grief as stronger and more beautiful than ever before. The sunrise teaches us this is possible.

2. Sunrises are part recovery, part expectation, and part new beginnings. Each day is a gift from God. Each day will be unique. Each day is an opportunity to heal and grow and serve.

3. Sunrises are gradual. Small glimmers of hope preceed any sort of power and warmth. Patience is essential. So is faith. I waited a half hour in the darkness for the above photo.

4. Clouds can’t contain the sunrise. They are merely predictible obstacles. We call them setbacks or challenges. The sun relentlessly climbs through the sky and gets stronger. The person keeps taking the next step. The clouds don’t stand a chance against perseverance.
