Twenty-Five Ways You Can Be Missional in Your World

written by Craig Finnestad July 20, 2017

I hear lots of complaining nowadays. I don’t see as much positive action. Let’s change that. Starting today. Try practicing a few of these this week. I’m going to as well. Do a few more next week. Have fun and be a blessing!

  1. Deliver fresh baked goods to a friend. Thank them for something they have done.
  2. Invite some neighbors you don’t know so well over for dinner. Share a meal with them and listen to their story.
  3. Share church posts and events on your Facebook page.
  4. Pay for the person behind you when getting fast food or coffee.
  5. Pray for somebody in your life for a week. Then do it for another person next week. Repeat until you run out of people. Then start over again.
  6. Do something really kind and really cool for a person who can do nothing to help you in return.
  7. Avoid gossip and complaining. Use life-giving words and practice gratitude.
  8. Eat lunch at school or work with somebody you don’t know. Learn about them.
  9. Serve a neighbor. Mow. Rake. Shovel. Weed. Whatever. Do it when they are gone.
  10. Clean your neighborhood park.
  11. Volunteer at a school.
  12. Handwrite somebody a note of encouragement.
  13. Handwrite somebody a thank you note.
  14. Join a serving team at church.
  15. Host a small group at church.
  16. Bring a friend to worship with you.
  17. Check-in on social media during worship. Post a photo or quote from the sermon or one of the songs.
  18. Ask people how you can pray for them on social media. Then pray for them. Follow-up later and ask how things are going.
  19. Give a financial gift to a missionary or local non-profit.
  20. Take a bunch of snacks to your child’s next sports game and share them with other families.
  21. Send an email or card to adults who invest in your children: coaches, teachers, youth minister, children’s minister, dance instructor, principal, etc… Thank them for caring about your kid.
  22. Be nice in traffic. Let people in.
  23. Tell somebody they look great.
  24. Ding Dong Ditch somebody. Leave them a gift on their doorstep.
  25. Take breakfast or treats for your co-workers or classmates.

On the Future of Methodism

I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out. -John Wesley
