The Water's Edge

I’m Thinking…Post-Easter Edition

written by Craig Finnestad April 24, 2019

I love Easter. The week leading up to Easter is an opportunity to reflect on the life and death of Jesus. Easter Sunday provides an opportunity to experience resurrection in life. The old can become new.

I love the week after Easter too. Life’s pace is a little slower. I have an opportunity to reflect. Here is what I am thinking these days.

An Empty Cross and an Empty Tomb Fill Our Emptiness

The empty cross is about forgiveness. The empty tomb teaches about courage, gratitude, and being present. New life for many of us would be:

  1. Experiencing God’s forgiveness.
  2. Being courageous and overcoming our fears.
  3. Practicing gratitude.
  4. Being fully present with God and with other people.

Excelling in one of two of the above areas would give new life to most of us. I’m thinking we all need to make a plan and start working the plan to incorporate forgiveness, courage, gratitude, and presence in our lives so that we may experience more fullness in life.

Volunteers

I’m convinced WE have the best volunteers. On Easter, more than 2,000 people worshipped at The Water’s Edge. Over 100 volunteers made this possible. Greeters, the security team, the food and beverage team, the sound and media team, the parking lot team, musicians, children’s volunteers, and probably some I am missing. Thank you to all of you. You gave significant time and energy to Christ and his church. You all made Easter an amazing experience for lots of people.

Staff

We have an amazing staff as well. Many work behind the scenes. They order things, pay bills, create bulletins, and plan. Others are more visible. Everyone of them is vital to the success of The Water’s Edge. A lot of responsibility rests on their shoulders. Thank them when you get a chance.

Any Given Sunday

I’m excited about our new series, Any Given Sunday, because God shows up every given Sunday. Worshipping is putting yourself in an environment where God can do amazing things in you and through you. Showing up and being present is our first and most important step. God takes care of things from there. I’m looking forward to spending the next five weeks with you.

On the Future of Methodism

I am not afraid that the people called Methodists should ever cease to exist either in Europe or America. But I am afraid lest they should only exist as a dead sect, having the form of religion without the power. And this undoubtedly will be the case unless they hold fast both the doctrine, spirit, and discipline with which they first set out. -John Wesley
